📍 This Week’s Tip: Clean Up Your Exit

Most paddlers focus on the catch and forget the exit. Dragging your blade behind you kills speed and wrecks your efficiency. Pull the blade out at your feet, not behind your heels. Keep it clean and smooth, and try keep it quiet. A smooth exit sets up a smoother next stroke and it makes your board glide.

🛠 Gear Pick of the Week: Waterproof Phone Pouch

Early spring paddles when you are just getting back into the paddling groove are when your phone is most likely to slip and fall, or take a swim. Consider something with a solid locking system, a clear screen window, and a lanyard that clips where you want it.

Amazon has a ton to pick from but we really love this one from Case Mate

🥪 Snack Break: Warm Crunchy Fuel Bar

I know. It sounds basic. But this is a sleeper hit for cold weather paddling.
Take a granola bar you already like. Not the sawdust ones. Wrap it in foil. Stick it in your jacket pocket with a hand warmer for ten minutes before you launch. You end up with a warm, soft, borderline gourmet bar that hits your bloodstream like a hug. Perfect mid paddle morale boost. Cheap. Easy. Glorious.

💬 Paddle Talk:

I once forgot to pack snacks on a chilly March paddle and convinced myself I’d be fine. Twenty minutes later my stomach was louder than the wind. By the end I was paddling with the energy of an old houseplant. Ever since, I keep a stash of pocket snacks ready to go. Nothing ruins a good paddle faster than hunger, and nothing fixes it faster than a quick bite.
