📍 This Week’s Tip: Shorter, Smarter Paddles

Don’t go from “I paddled once in February” to “let’s do a twelve mile epic adventure.” Early spring muscles are liars. They feel ready, then quit halfway. Give yourself two or three shorter paddle sessions to rebuild rhythm, confidence, and balance. It sets you up for a strong season instead of an early burnout. And if you are part of the 100 Mile SUP Challenge this year, you will need all your strength to finish this challenge.

🛠 Gear Pick of the Week: Lightweight Windbreakers

Spring paddling is basically a battle with unpredictable gusts. You want a simple shell that stuffs into a pocket and blocks just enough wind and water to make the session comfortable.

These recommendations can be chosen based on how often your local water gets spicy.

🌊 Spotlight: Early Spring Routes

This is the perfect time to revisit your easy, no drama paddle spots. Protected coves, calm rivers, short loops. These routes let you focus on technique instead of fighting wind or current. They’re simple, reliable, and exactly what your early season body needs. Plus, it feels good to get a win under your belt before tackling bigger days.

💬 Paddle Talk:

Every spring there’s a moment where I’m halfway through a paddle and my legs start burning like I’m climbing a hill that doesn’t exist. That’s when I remember that winter is great at making you forget you have stabilizer muscles. Nothing humbles you faster. Then, a week later, you’re smoother, faster, and wondering why you ever doubted yourself. Spring is a reset button. Use it.
